How to Monitor Online Personal Training Clients

Online personal training has become the new way to offer your personal training services at an affordable rate to your clients and still give value to them. Because it is so untraditional, it becomes necessary to look for nontraditional means to get your coaching done.

Most clients who choose an online trainer do so to a large extent for the convenience, but mostly for the element of control inherent in this method of training. An online personal trainer is there to guide, encourage and motivate the clients as they aim to reach their fitness goals.

When working online with a client, the first thing you need to do is ascertain the clients goals. This is what will guide both you and the client in the weeks and months to come. This can be done by designing a questionnaire which the client will fill at the consultation stage. The questionnaire should contain everything from the client’s body type to the current weight; all the information you would have gotten from your physical clients.

Once that is done, to make client tracking or monitoring more organized, you need to chart the weekly and monthly plan in accordance with the client’s fitness goals. This will include a nutrition chart or online personal training software suite (workout programing, meal planning, food journaling, Fitness assessments, Goals setting) and whatever you usually include in your charts, complete with timelines. Nevertheless, how do you ensure that your client keeps to the schedule without getting unmotivated and discouraged? This is where the monitoring begins.

In monitoring your online clients, set weekly weigh-in consultations. This should preferably be through a phone conversation; skype is perfect for calls like this. Go through the chart or log on to the software suite with the client and examine how much of the weekly goal has been achieved. Ask the client to send in the current weight and other relevant details. Many of these things can be done through the online training software features.

Make sure you are available to the client to answer questions and give encouragement on a regular basis. If you cannot always be on skype to answer your client’s phone calls, be really committed about replying emails and instant messages. This is really important so that the client does not feel disconnected from you.

Also, there is myriad online personal training software available for personal training professionals. You can use this to chart your clients exercise schedule, nutrition plan and promptly keep in touch with each client when you need to.

No matter what you decide to do, the one thing you must never relegate is the personal touch. Be sure to always keep the ‘personal’ in personal trainer or you might just lose your client altogether.
